The ultimate snack-plate counting showdown: can you beat the visual illusion?

Take a careful look at the snack-filled plate and try to count every single piece without losing track. At first glance, the puzzle seems straightforward, and many people quickly arrive at an answer of 11 or 12. But the way the snacks overlap makes the task more challenging than it initially appears. The real test is whether you can examine the entire image carefully instead of trusting your first impression.

The overlapping snacks are what make this visual puzzle so deceptive. Our brains tend to group nearby objects together, causing some of the pieces in the middle to blend into one another. A useful strategy is to begin at the outer edge of the plate and move around it in one consistent direction. Count each snack only once, then slowly check the center and any areas where one piece may be covering another.

Give yourself at least 10 seconds before deciding on your final answer. Carefully scan the edges, the middle, and the spaces between larger pieces. Some snacks may only have a small portion visible, making them easy to miss. Even when you feel certain that you have counted everything, take another look—you may suddenly spot a piece that was hiding in plain sight.

The correct answer is 14 snacks. Many people settle on 11 or 12 because they miss the partially covered pieces around the center and edges of the plate. So, how did you do? Were you able to find all 14 on your first attempt, or did this tricky visual puzzle manage to fool you?
