Senior U.S. officials, including Donald Trump, JD Vance, and Marco Rubio, are working to finalize a potential agreement aimed at bringing an end to the conflict involving Iran. Diplomatic efforts have intensified in recent days as negotiators seek common ground on several key issues that have fueled tensions in the region.

Rubio stressed that the Strait of Hormuz must be reopened, describing its closure as both unlawful and unsustainable. He explained that ongoing discussions in Qatar are focused on finalizing critical language within the proposed agreement, although officials acknowledge that reaching a final deal may still require additional time and negotiation.

At the same time, U.S. Central Command confirmed carrying out self-defense strikes in southern Iran, targeting missile sites and vessels believed to pose threats to American forces operating in the region. The strikes took place near Bandar Abbas and followed weeks of continued tensions despite an existing cease-fire. Military officials reported that U.S. ships and aircraft have continued to face threats, including surface-to-air missile activity, as the standoff persists.

Iranian officials have acknowledged progress in the negotiations, stating that many outstanding issues have been resolved, while cautioning that a final agreement is not yet within immediate reach. They also accused the United States of changing its positions during the talks. The proposed arrangement could include Iran reducing or eliminating its stockpile of highly enriched uranium and reopening the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for relief from U.S. sanctions. Although both sides have expressed cautious optimism and U.S. officials believe Iran is now more willing to negotiate following recent military actions, major questions—particularly regarding enforcement of nuclear restrictions—remain unresolved as discussions continue.
