A devastating fire brought the city of Millharbor to a standstill when flames broke out in the historic Mariner’s Block district during the afternoon. The blaze reportedly started inside the aging McAllister Textiles Building and quickly intensified, sending thick clouds of smoke into the sky. Within a short time, the fire spread beyond the original structure, threatening nearby businesses and drawing a large emergency response.

Witnesses described a rapidly unfolding scene. Many first noticed a strong smell of smoke before flames became visible through the upper floors of the building. As the fire grew, pedestrians, shop owners, and residents hurried to leave the area. Traffic slowed to a halt, vendors abandoned their stands, and onlookers gathered at a safe distance while firefighters rushed to contain the growing emergency.

Crews from several fire stations responded, but the historic nature of the district presented significant challenges. Older buildings constructed with large amounts of timber allowed the flames to spread quickly from one structure to another. A neighboring furniture warehouse suffered extensive damage, including a partial roof collapse. Nearby apartment residents were evacuated, with emergency personnel assisting those who needed help leaving the buildings. More than one hundred firefighters worked for hours under difficult conditions as changing winds continued to fuel the blaze. Several firefighters were treated for smoke exposure, while authorities also advised nearby residents to remain indoors because of poor air quality.

Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire, and officials have not yet identified what sparked the incident. Despite the widespread destruction, no fatalities have been confirmed, a result many residents consider fortunate given the scale of the disaster. As recovery efforts begin, members of the community have already stepped forward to provide shelter, food, and support for those whose homes and businesses were affected.
