Without seeing the actual image, however, there is no definite answer. Many versions are built around optical illusions or clever mathematical tricks that encourage people to count only the eggs they can immediately see rather than considering what may be hidden.

One popular version shows eggs arranged in layers inside a box or on a plate, sometimes forming a pyramid. The trick is that several eggs may be hidden underneath the visible ones. For example, if there is one egg on the top layer, four on the next, and nine on the bottom, the total is 14 eggs. Other versions use glass, mirrors, or reflections to make the number appear much larger. In those puzzles, the challenge is recognizing which eggs are real and which are simply reflections.
